Juniper Place Cocktails: The Southside
This gin-based alternative to its rum-filled cousin, the Mojito, the Southside is a smooth refreshing cocktail. As to its origins, one story is that it was initially created in Chicago during the Prohibition era, where it was drunk by the Southside mobsters.

Al Capone
The ‘Capo’, of the Southside gang, was of course Al Capone. It is said that his rivals, The North Side gang enjoyed a gin that was smooth, but Al’s bootleg brand was somewhat rougher and needed improving with more pleasant additions, hence the South Side cocktail was born. It was the North Side gang who came off worse in a certain infamous St Valentine’s Day in 1929!
To recreate our Southside, you need our very own Cygnet Gin which is available to buy online direct from our distillery (link below).
